Biography

Mitsunori Morimatsu, MD, PhD is a consultant neurologist and leading authority in clinical neurobiology and geriatric medicine. In 1965, he graduated from the University of Tokyo Faculty of Medicine. He subsequently completed his doctoral research, earning his Doctor of Medicine (PhD) from the University of Tokyo Graduate School of Medicine. He dedicated his early career to academic clinical practice, serving as an instructor and senior physician at premier university clinics. In February 1989, he was appointed as the founding First Chair and Professor of Neurology at the Yamaguchi University School of Medicine. He successfully pioneered the division, expanding it into the major Department of Neurological and Brain Sciences by 2001. At present, he is a Professor Emeritus of Yamaguchi University and serves as the Hospital Director at the Tokuyama Medical Association Hospital in Shunan city, Yamaguchi Prefecture, where he manages regional open-system medical services and advanced clinical neurology. Dr. Morimatsu is globally recognized for his foundational work in neurodegenerative diagnostics, utilizing Single-Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) and regional cerebral blood flow profiling for early clinical staging of dementias.
