Abstract

Cardiac rehabilitation emphasizes lifestyle modifications including exercise, diet, smoking cessation, and stress management to improve cardiovascular health and reduce future events. Personalized exercise prescriptions, heart-healthy diets, and robust smoking cessation programs are integral. Psychosocial support, weight management, and medication adherence are also key components. Early risk factor intervention, enhanced by technology, aims for better long-term outcomes and sustained lifestyle changes.

Introduction

 

Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation plays a crucial role in improving the health and well-being of patients with heart and lung conditions. High-intensity interval training (HIIT) and moderate continuous training (MCT) are both effective methods for improving exercise capacity and quality of life in heart failure patients, with HIIT potentially offering superior benefits in some outcomes [1].

Individualized programs are essential to maximize the effectiveness of cardiac rehabilitation. Pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) is also highly effective for individuals with chronic respiratory diseases. It helps improve exercise capacity, reduces dyspnea, and enhances overall quality of life [2].

Home-based PR can be a viable option for those with limited access to center-based programs, increasing accessibility and convenience. Endurance training is another key component of cardiovascular health. It improves cardiorespiratory fitness and reduces the risk of cardiovascular events [3].

The optimal intensity and duration of endurance training may vary based on individual factors, and combining it with resistance training can lead to synergistic benefits. Cardiac rehabilitation programs should always be tailored to the specific needs and risk factors of each patient [4].

A multidisciplinary approach, involving exercise training, education, and psychosocial support, is most effective for improving patient outcomes. Telerehabilitation offers a way to improve access to care for patients with heart failure [5].
