Abstract

Alcohol consumption is a confirmed risk factor for various cancers, with risk increasing with intake. Acetaldehyde, an ethanol metabolite, is a carcinogen causing DNA damage. Combined alcohol and tobacco use synergistically elevates cancer risk, especially in the upper aerodigestive tract. Different beverage types and drinking patterns influence risk. Even moderate consumption poses risks, particularly for breast and colorectal cancers. Molecular mechanisms involve DNA adducts and genomic instability. Public health interventions to reduce alcohol consumption are vital for cancer prevention.
