Abstract
Biostimulation, a core environmental biotechnology strategy, enhances microbial metabolic capabilities for pollutant remediation by optimizing conditions such as nutrient availability and pH. Research demonstrates its efficacy in treating industrial wastewater dyes, reducing heavy metal mobility, and accelerating crude oil degradation in sediments. It is also applied to remove pharmaceuticals and pesticides, improve biogas production, and degrade persistent organic pollutants and microplastics. Effective biostimulation requires tailored approaches for diverse contaminated sites.
