Abstract

This collection of studies emphasizes the diverse applications and benefits of microbial biosurfactants in environmental remediation. Research showcases their efficacy in oil spill cleanup, soil and water contamination treatment, and heavy metal removal from wastewater. Various microbial sources and production optimization strategies are discussed, alongside the inherent advantages of biosurfactants such as biodegradability and low toxicity. The potential for enhanced and sustainable biosurfactant production through genetic engineering and the exploration of unique biosurfactants from extremophiles are also highlighted.
