Abstract
Cancer cachexia is a complex metabolic syndrome impacting patient survival and quality of life. This review synthesizes current understanding of its pathophysiology, diagnosis, and management. Key aspects include the central role of inflammation, the importance of nutritional and physical interventions, and the potential of pharmacological agents. Emerging research highlights the gut microbiome’s influence and the necessity of personalized and integrative treatment approaches. Patient-reported outcomes are vital for assessing the effectiveness of interventions.
