Abstract
Immune surveillance is a critical process for preventing cancer by identifying and eliminating nascent tumor cells through the coordinated action of immune cells. Tumors employ various escape mechanisms to subvert this surveillance, and the tumor microenvironment plays a complex role in modulating immune responses. Innate lymphoid cells and natural killer cells are key players in early immune defense against cancer. The dynamic interaction between the immune system and tumors is described by cancer immunoediting. Dendritic cells are essential for initiating adaptive anti-tumor immunity. Immunotherapies like checkpoint inhibitors reactivate suppressed T cell responses, and the interplay with viruses and the gut microbiome further influences cancer immunity.
