Abstract
Epigenetic regulation, through mechanisms like DNA methylation, histone modifications, and non-coding RNAs, is central to gene expression control, cellular differentiation, and response to stimuli. Dysregulation is implicated in cancer and inflammatory diseases, offering therapeutic targets. Aberrant methylation patterns are cancer hallmarks, while specific histone marks indicate gene activity. Environmental factors can induce epigenetic changes. Epigenetic biomarkers are crucial for personalized medicine in cancer diagnosis and treatment. Epigenetic drugs (’epidrugs’) and targeting epigenetic pathways represent promising therapeutic strategies for various diseases, including those affecting immune function and inflammation.
