Global Malnutrition: From Undersnutrition to Obesity and Beyond
Abstract
This body of research provides a comprehensive overview of malnutrition’s global impact, addressing undernutrition and overnutrition. It emphasizes the importance of early life nutrition, maternal health, and micronutrient sufficiency for child development. The review also covers obesity trends, school-based interventions for adolescents, the connection between food insecurity and mental health, and the gut microbiome’s role. Economic implications and geriatric nutrition are discussed, along with nutrition’s influence on immune function and infectious disease. The findings underscore the need for integrated strategies to combat malnutrition effectively.
