Abstract
Marine bioremediation employs microbial communities for pollutant degradation in aquatic ecosystems. Research identifies bacteria, fungi, and microalgae capable of breaking down hydrocarbons, heavy metals, persistent organic pollutants, and microplastics. Novel strategies include biosurfactants, marine biofilms, and bioaugmentation with microbial consortia. Mangrove-associated microbes and marine sponges are also explored for their remediation potential. These biological approaches offer sustainable solutions for mitigating marine pollution and restoring ecosystem health.
