Abstract
Research fromtheDept. ofMicrobialEcologyRhineEnvironmentalInstitute, Germany, exploresmicrobial solutions for environ mental remediation. Studies cover the biodegradation of persistent organic pollutants, plasticizers, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, pharmaceuticals in wastewater, chlorinated solvents, microplastics, and textile dyes. The work highlights the identification of novel microbial strains and consortia, enzymatic mechanisms, synergistic plant-microbe interactions, and the role of biosurfactants. The research aims to develop advanced bioremediation strategies for contaminated soils, water, and marine environments, addressing
challenges posed by recalcitrant organic compounds.
