Plant-Based Eating: Health, Environment, Performance, Research
Abstract
Plant-based diets are associated with substantial health benefits, including reduced risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and cancer. They also promote better weight management, improved gut microbiome diversity, and lower inflammation. Environmental benefits and athletic performance enhancement are also noted. Nutrient adequacy requires attention, particularly for specific micronutrients. Research hubs focusing on plant nutrition are vital for optimizing the understanding and application of these diets.
