Abstract
This paper explores the evolution of scientific record-keeping, from its historical roots in personal notebooks to contemporary
digital archives. It examines the impact of technologies like printing and digital tools on knowledge dissemination and collaboration.
The challenges and opportunities presented by digital records, the role of scientific societies, data management in the age of big data,
and the importance of provenance and ethical considerations are discussed. The evolution of laboratory notebooks and the societal
implications of accessible scientific records are also highlighted.
