Abstract
This collection of research highlights the indispensable role of soil microbial communities in environmental remediation and ecological processes. Studies explore their capacity for bioremediation of diverse contaminants, including hydrocarbons, heavy metals, pesticides, and persistent organic pollutants. The synergistic effects of microbial consortia, plant-microbe interactions, and specialized microbial enzymes are examined for enhanced degradation. The influence of agricultural practices on microbial communities and the potential of genetically engineered microbes and soil fungi are also discussed. Furthermore, the microbiome’s critical function in carbon sequestration for climate change mitigation is emphasized, underscoring its vital importance in maintaining soil health and environmental quality.
