1. How many years have you been practicing and/or performing research?
33 years.

2. What is the research topic you are working on now?
Functional gemomics, pathogenomics, metagenomics, pathogenesis of infectious diseases, molecular microbiology, immunology.

3. What makes an article top quality?
Solve the important issues in the field using novel ideas and novel technique, make the field forward.

4. What are the qualities you look for in an article?
High scientific standard, move the field forward, application of novel technique.

5. Do you have any research funding (NIH or other national funding) now?
Yes, I have one R01 and R21.

6. When did you become an editor of 中国P站 Journal?
By invitation.

7. What is your greatest career accomplishment?
I created sequence defined high density signature tagged mutagenesis library in B. burgdorferi, screening and found several hundreds of the virulence determinants using mouse infection model and Luminex FlexMap technique that developed by me. This breakthrough moves the field forward.

8. How does the research published percolate through to practitioners?
The results have important impact on the development of diagnostic kits and vaccine of Lyme disease.

9. What is the purpose of serving as an editor?
Spread the knowledge and improve the quality of journal.

Yes.
